Workout Wear That Can Motivate

It’s hard enough getting out of the bed to exercise, and finding cute and comfy gym attire can be another ball game. If not having “anything to wear” has been your lack of exercise excuse, consider these tips when shopping for workout wear:

Look for brighter colors. Dark colors like black and gray may be safer and hide sweat, but can be a bit dull.

Add pizazz with a graphic tee, ruffles, or patterns. Try not to go overboard. Just a little detail is enough for a workout.

Choose fit and breathable materials. I’m not talking Jane Fonda spandex, but too loose can pose a safety hazard, especially on gym equipment. Choose pants that cuff, light jackets that zip up, or shirts that slightly snug, like Old Navy’s GoDry tees (shown below in neon green).

Jumpsuits, which are usually sleeveless, can be tricky. The key is finding one that is loose and pairing it with a belt, cardigan, and flat shoes. Platform heels work just as well. Jumpsuit Edition

Bright, Colorblock, and Maxi!

C&C California Colorblock Maxi Tank Dress

Never thought I’d find a dress that could so perfectly combine all three trends. Because there’s a lot going on with the dress, I would match my undershirt/cardigan with the top lilac color (so it blends well), and pair it with a neutral-colored scarf and sandals.

What do y’all think? Way too much? How would you style it differently?

Save or Splurge?

If you spend minutes contemplating buying a pricey maxi dress or an Alexander Wang t-shirt, consider these tips below that I find quite helpful.

Save on:

Fads and styles that won’t last long: cropped cardigans (or cropped anything), wedge boots, boho handbags, graphic tees.

Pieces that can easily be found cheaper: tights, scarves, sunglasses, flip-flops.

Splurge on:

Must-haves: solid color flats, good quality jeans or trousers, spacious handbag.

Pieces that can go with anything: maxi dresses and skirts in solid colors, button-down blouses, cashmere cardigan(s).

AND

When you really just want to treat yourself. After all, what’s the worse that can happen?

What to Wear to an Interview/Job Fair

While May 2012 graduation is months away, the challenge and nervousness of finding a job is already here. I did attend a few campus employment workshops to lessen the anxiety and overall I learned that first impressions are key when it comes to meeting with potential employers. A suit is often the most appropriate for an interview, but women have a little more leniency in what they can wear. Here are 4 interview attire basics:
1) A dark, solid color hijab that matches your suit (stick to interview-safe colors like black, dark blue, or gray).
2) A well-tailored suit, or trousers & blazer. Spend the extra–it’s worth it. Skirts work, too, if they are professional and not casual.
3) A light colored blouse
4) A pair of well-polished shoes (low-heel pumps are the standard, but simple professional flats should be fine).
