5 Ways to Brighten up This Winter!

Winter may bring dry skin and depressing moods, but you can still glow in this dull time of the year.  Ditch dark colors, monotone sweaters, and make-up free days and try these 5 easy tips to brighten your skin, style, and mood.
Brighten up this Winter!

ExfoliateRemoving dead cells from your face can make your skin feel clearer and brighter. Try Aveeno’s Skin Brightening Daily Scrub, or your favorite homemade facial scrub. My favorite: baking soda with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. Just be sure not to scrub too hard, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Shimmer! An eye shadow that reflects light, such as bronze, can make eyes look bigger and brighter. Make sure to apply shadow in the crease of your eye near the inner corner for a brighter effect. In addition, applying “shimmering hues of white, pearl, or pale pink deflect the appearance of darkness around eyes. Brushing a sheer pastel, such as pink, lavender, or baby blue, across lids has a similar brightening effect” (from CoverGirl).  Get more eye-brightening tips from CoverGirl.

Choose a Bright JacketLike Old Navy’s Peter-Pan Jacket in Big Yellow Bus (shown above). Winter jackets don’t have to be dark, and if you’re a spill-prone person, like myself, carry Tide’s To Go Mini Instant Stain Remover or another handy stain remover for those inevitable breakfast/lunch/snack accidents.

Wear Colorful Pants to Work.  Bright work pants are unconventional and that’s exactly why you should try them. Bright slacks can easily transform and brighten up your usual, dark work outfit.

Try a Neon Sweater. Yes, more neon–but just not too much. Pair your neon sweater or blazer with a darker bottom to really create contrast and make your outfit even brighter.
